1. Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act. As of March 2001, the Commission discontinued its active work on this project. The Commission may reconsider the project at a later date in response to approval of recommended amendments to the Act or developments in other state legislatures.
Formerly known as proposed Uniform Commercial Code Article 2B. Licenses, UCITA is intended to establish a comprehensive set of rules governing "computer information transactions." This term basically means the licensing of software programs, such as Corel Word Perfect, and the contracting for on-line information, such as Lexis/Nexis or AOL. The Commission has begun its consideration of the Act to determine whether it is appropriate for adoption in New Jersey. At its December 16, 1999 meeting, the Commission will consider a memorandum setting forth analyses of selected provisions of the Act. The memorandum also includes the recommendations of staff.

The Commission has received written comments in response to its proposed amendment of UCITA. Professor Raymond Nimmer has submitted a letter to the Commission - Word or PDF; Professor Raymond Nimmer and Carlyle Ring, Jr. have submitted a memorandum to the Commission outlining their opposition to the Commission's proposals - Word or PDF; and the Digital Commerce Coalition has submitted a letter expressing its opposition to the Commission's proposals - Word or PDF.
2. Uniform Common Interest Ownership Act. UCIOA is a product of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. This proposed uniform law governs primarily cooperative and condominium ownership of real property. The Commission reviewed the NCCUSL product and decided that the Act suffered from problems of substance and style. The Commission asked staff to prepare an in-house version of a law governing common interest ownership of real property.
